Dear Parents:

My name is Michelle Schulz. I am the school nurse here at DHSMs. Saenz and I would like to extend a warm welcome to all students and their parents. I am looking forward to working with you and your children during the 2024-2025 school year. To ensure your child’s health and safety I would like to share a few items with you.

HEALTH CONCERNS: Please inform your school nurse of any severe allergies, surgeries, accidents or new health problems that occurred during the summer months or which may occur during the school year.

MEDICATIONS: NO child is permitted to carry PRESCRIPTION OR OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATIONS to school without written permission on the proper forms. If a child, by order of a physician must receive medication at school, a medication form will need to be completed. Therefore, a prescription label IS NOT acceptable in lieu of an MD’s order. A written order must be obtained. Our new Medication Permission Form must be completed and signed by both physician and the parent. This form along with the prescribed medication in its original container must be brought to school by the parent/guardian. Students will not be given over the counter medications or as needed medications before 10:30am or after 1:30pm as a precaution. If you administer medication to your child before he/she comes to school, which could affect their performance, please contact me.

ILLNESS/ABSENCES: Please contact the school office in the morning if your child is to be absent and inform them why he/she will not be attending. If your child has been ill, he/she should be free of fever, vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.

COVID 19/Influenza: If your child presents with COVID or flu like symptoms, please notify the clinic to report. Our district now accepts home test results for COVID. If a student tests positive for Covid, there is a 5 day isolation period from when the symptoms began. We are following the new TEA guidleines regarding contact tracing and close contact quarantine. It will be the parent’s choice whether to quaratine siblings living in the household with Covid positive cases. Positve flu cases have to be reported to our local county health center.

I hope this information is helpful to you. We hope you have a safe and healthy school year. If we can be of any help throughout the year please don’t hesitate to call us at school.

Sincerely,

Michelle Schulz, RN
