What are Athletic Trainers...

Athletic Trainers are healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize the activity and participation of patients and clients across age and care continuums.  Athletic Training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities.  ATs work under the direction of physicians as prescribed by state licensure statutes.  ATs are highly qualified, multi-skilled healthcare professionals recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) and are categorized as allied health professionals by the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration (TDLR).

How can Athletic Trainers Help...

Secondary school athletic trainers provide young athletes with immediate access to a healthcare professional that can help them in the following areas:

  • Injury/Illness Prevention and Wellness Protection
  • Clinical Evaluation and Diagnosis
  • Immediate and Emergency Care
  • Treatment and Rehabilitation
  • Concussion Management
  • Organizational and Professional Health and Well-Being
  • Nutritional Education

At Dayton High School our facilities are open at 6:15 AM and close after the last athletic practice or the last game of the day.  Athletes are to report new injuries and illnesses before the start of the school day or before the end of the practice or game in which the injury occurred.

Anytime an athlete seeks medical care from a physician, the athlete must bring a note stating a diagnosis, recommendations or limitations for participation and rehabilitation and permission to be treated by the Licensed Athletic Training Staff. Failure to do so will result in the athlete not being able to participate until documentation has been received.
